The Designer
Michelle Y. McGhee is the creative
force behind MYMac Creations. MYMac Creations creates a line of one of a
kind jewelry that is sought by many. The pieces are distinctive and
recognizable for their high level of creativity, beautiful colorations
and unusual materials. MYMac Creations translates ethnic influences and
images from nature into elegant, contemporary shapes for a bold, cool,
clean, sophisticated expression. The jewelry is designed to compliment
the form and movement of the body. There is a feeling of magic and
adornment in the work, which communicates a sense of pleasure to the
wearer.
Each necklace is beaded with the highest attention to detail, fall and
flow, whether the look is simple and graphic or elaborately elegant.
Michelle uses rare beads from around the world including antique African
beads, Austrian crystal, Tibetan copper and brass, and various forms of
silver. She is drawn to natural materials such as bone, horn, wood,
coral, amber and stone. Michelle enjoys using unusual, natural pearls,
as well as precious and semi-precious jewels such as carnelian, citrine
and turquoise. Some necklaces feature powerful ethnographic elements
such as tuaregs or Ethiopian crosses. MYMac Creations boasts pieces that
harmonize in color and proportion to achieve a total concept.
Michelle’s slogan is “Jewelry Inspired By Life’s Imagination”.
She explains this slogan as jewelry inspired by HER life’s imagination.
Things she sees every day and those things which are purely in her head.
Each piece is cleverly designed and lovingly handcrafted by Michelle.
All of MYMac Creations pieces are one-of-a-kind works of wearable art.
Michelle’s motto is, “Jewelry, just like any work of art, is created to
be seen and evoke an emotion.”
MYMac Creations has designed pieces for local artists such as
contemporary gospel artist jaqi (www.justjaqi.com) and a collective of
pieces to coordinate with contemporary jazz artist Cheryl Lynne
Skinner’s (www.cheryllynneskinner.com) Shades of Blue CD. MYMac
Creations had the pleasure of being invited to provide pieces for the
artist gift bags for the 2007 BET Bobby Jones Gospel Explosion. MYMac
Creations were also a staple in the trendy boutique Via Chic in
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor until the store lost its lease.
Biography
Michelle Y. McGhee was born and raised in the Washington, DC
Metropolitan Area. Upon graduation from high school she attended Robert
Lewis Studio of Hair Concepts and became a successful hair designer.
Wanting to take on another challenge, Michelle decided to enter the
corporate world and thus, went back to school to obtain a Paralegal
Certificate and a Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies. Her
area of concentration is Commercial Real Estate. Michelle later added
electric cooperative finance to her resume.
Michelle’s love of fashion and creativity has now brought her to the
world of jewelry. She immersed herself in taking classes in
metalsmithing, which eventually led her to beadwork. After attending
numerous classes and implementing self-teaching, Michelle watched her
home fill with many of her exquisite creations. Since there were more
pieces than Michelle could ever wear in one lifetime, she decided to
develop her own business, which we have come to know as MYMac Creations.
